Natural selection.

A couple months ago I wrote about 4 kids who were killed by a drunk driver down the street from my moms house.

This accident absolutely horrified me, as well as the rest of the community. It was 4 teens going to pick up a pizza when a drunk woman's SUV landed on top of their car, killing them all.

Stories like that have always (understandably) really bothered me, maybe because I have younger siblings and think of them constantly, but also because no parent or family member should ever have to suffer the loss of a child, especially at the hands of someone elses ignorant decision.

However, there are some stories that hit the news every once in awhile that make me question humanity and wonder why some people who get away with being so fucking stupid in every possible way still manage to live a life that doesn't require them to be sedated, gagged and restrained. I'm pretty sure we all have someone in mind that we've met one time or another, and are thinking "yep, gagged and restrained. That's what they need... and not in a sexual way, either. In more of a 'I'm gonna be singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to my feet and my imaginary pet mouse Lola for the rest of my life.'"

God, could you imagine all these people getting together for a "fucking dumbass" conference and procreating with one another?

Cue nausea.

Anydumbass, last night in Canton, MI, 5 teens were hit by an Amtrak train as they were crossing the railroad tracks. Here's the jist of the story according to the Detroit Free Press.

Witnesses told police the crossing gates were down and the lights were flashing.
Another vehicle was stopped, waiting for the Amtrak train to cross Hannan Road in Canton on Thursday afternoon.
But the driver of a Ford Fusion carrying four other passengers kept going, around the waiting SUV, around the arm of the crossing gate and onto the Norfolk Southern Corp. tracks where the train bound for Chicago was rolling at almost 70 m.p.h.
Canton police said four young men, ages 18, 19, 20 and 21, and a 14-year-old girl were in the car when it was struck. They were all pronounced dead at the scene. Officers, accompanied by chaplains, delivered the devastating news to the families. Police had not released the names of the victims, who didn't live in Canton.

Another article later mentions the driver of the vehicle had a suspended license.

If you're interested, this article here has actual video footage of the car and train. It's not close-up, it's not gruesome, and it's not graphic, it just shows from a distance how quickly the car sped around the waiting SUV and how quickly the train came up on them.

I can't even begin to imagine what these parents are going through right now, and I don't ever want to. One mother lost two of her sons. This is horrifying and devastating in every possible way, and as far as the passengers of the vehicle go, I feel awful that they were stuck in the middle of such a bad decision.

As for the driver of the vehicle? Natural selection.
